Can You See the TANG???

Robbie and I are in Hawaii for a few days.  We are here to visit and pray for Sister Alva Elliott and her wonderful church in Kealakekua.

Our first morning here we decided to go for a walk.  While on this walk, we saw some of the most beautiful beaches you have ever laid your eyes on.  We just had to stop for a moment and take in all the beauty that was around us.  When we stopped to look around, we noticed a couple of things right away.  First, we saw crabs. Little tiny crabs.  They were everywhere scurrying over the lava rock faces.  Then as we looked over into the aqua blue sea, we noticed a beautiful bright yellow color reflecting off the sun light back at us.  It was hard not to notice.  They were fish.  Little bright yellow fish.  Robbie and I would have never seen these beautiful creatures if we had not stopped to look more closely.

As soon as we got back to the motel room I googled these little bundles of joy to determine what they were.  I discovered that they are only native to the reefs in Hawaii.  They are called Yellow Tang.

Now as Robbie and I were looking intently at the crabs moving on the rocks, a woman came up beside us and asked, “what are you two looking at?”.  I began to tell her we were watching the crabs and the little yellow fish.  She could not see them because she had never taken the time to stop and search for them.  The crabs are very difficult to see because their color blends in so well with the lava rocks.  This woman probably walked by this very spot many times and yet never noticed anything around her.  She was completely unaware of all the beauty, that is until she saw us staring into the deep blue sea.

Isn’t it amazing how that we do this very thing when it comes to the things of God?  We come to worship, but our minds are on other stuff.  We are preoccupied with our own path and agenda that we fail to recognize that God is passing by us.  Or we open the Bible and just see words, we don’t stop long enough to thoroughly see God’s promises.  Or we see an offering as just another offering, never really stopping for a moment to identify the real need that is before us.  We never stop long enough to notice God in our surroundings.

Ladies and Gentlemen, it’s time for us to stop and see the Tang!

Luke 10:38-42, As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a village where a woman named Martha welcomed them into her home. Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. But Martha was worrying over the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.”  But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are so upset over all these details!  42 There is really only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it — and I won’t take it away from her.”  NLT
