If you are like me, I know you must love new stuff. Anything new is good, for example, a new car. Don’t you just love new car smell? Or the new paint on the car, without a scratch on it? Or how about the new tires? I love a new Titleist Pro V1 golf ball. I love new guitar strings, I love how they sound, crisp and clean. I would love to have a new Les Paul supreme Gold Top. I love new!
This is the reason I love the new year, everything about it is new. There will be new opportunities. We will be able to start fresh with a clean slate. We can start all over. I’m truly excited about it.
What about our relationship with God? It’s a new beginning. It’s a new season. It’s a new moment in time to reevaluate our priorities and to begin again to focus more clearly on what really matters. That priority is our relationship with the Lord. It is a new consideration of our commitment to the one who gave us life and peace and joy.
What about all the new stuff that the Lord has promised to us? A new heaven, a new earth, a new song, a new and living way, a new covenant, a new name, new mercies every morning, a new man and a new Jerusalem. Surely because of all this new stuff, we can focus on a new and exciting relationship with God in this new year.
